Ageing Bridges – a Time Bomb?
The topic of bridge construction is one that keeps our office busy – the head of our bridge construction department, Andreas Malcher, for example, reports on the points to be considered in a video podcast that is well worth watching.
A SWR report entitled “Time bomb bridges” is now dedicated to the question of how the many existing bridges in Germany are actually doing – and what we can do to better protect our infrastructure in the future.
One of the experts interviewed for this report is our CEO Prof. Lucio Blandini. He reports on the research currently being conducted at the ILEK (Institute for Lightweight Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart).
Together with his team, Lucio Blandini is developing new materials and constructions that will not only make buildings such as bridges lighter, but also much more durable than previous structures.
