Climate-Damaging Emissions Must be Banned
“Of course we don’t have an energy problem” – the thesis sounds provocative at first, but Werner Sobek immediately explains the reason for it in his farewell lecture: “The sun alone provides ten thousand times more energy than the entire human race needs.” If the desired energy transition is to succeed, Werner Sobek warns, the expansion of renewable energies must finally be seriously pursued. In order to achieve “Net-Zero” in the building industry, Werner Sobek therefore demands that “the emission of climate-damaging gases must be prohibited during the production, operation, conversion and deconstruction of buildings“.
On 25 May 2023, after almost three decades of teaching at the University of Stuttgart, Werner Sobek gave his farewell lecture to an audience of around 900. After around 90 minutes, Werner Sobek said goodbye to the stage for the last time as a lecturer to a standing ovation. For all those who could not be there, we have documented the event and are now showing various excerpts from Werner Sobek’s speech. In the third of a total of five films, Werner Sobek talks about the possibilities for quickly achieving the necessary emissions turnaround.
