Denmark as a Role Model
While there is still speculation in Germany about how far the target of 400,000 new homes set by the German government will actually be missed (and how this can be changed through subsidies and other measures), developments in our northern neighbour are heading in a completely different direction. In a “Reduction Roadmap” recently submitted to the government in Copenhagen, more than 500 companies from the Danish construction industry have called for a drastic reduction in the statutory upper limit for CO2 emissions in residential construction.
The Frankfurter Rundschau analyses this development in a detailed report. Our colleague Stefanie Weidner, who has headed our office in Copenhagen for two years, is also quoted: “It is characteristic of this progressive and science-orientated country that the industry is calling for even higher targets”.
Could such a demand also be possible in Germany? We remain optimistic…
