Fascinating Play of Light Thanks to Triangular Window Openings

The design for the North Mosque in Manama, Bahrain, comes from the New York office of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill − Werner Sobek planned the supporting structure for this beautiful project.

The cuboid building consists of a concrete shell clad inside and out with natural stone. The sunlight through the triangular window openings creates a fascinating play of shadows in the prayer hall; in the dark, the triangles illuminate the outer facade through the light inside the building.

The North Mosque was built as part of the Bahrain Bay Development, a futuristic project in the heart of the capital.
