Introducing Our Locations: Werner Sobek Istanbul
The Skyland Towers in Istanbul are the tallest buildings in Türkiye. Also on the Bosphorus are the two Vakif Bank towers with their highly efficient glass facades. In the centre of Baghdad, on the other hand, stands the 172-metre-high Central Bank of Iraq building designed by Zaha Hadid.
What do these Three Major Projects have in Common?
Werner Sobek was responsible for the facade engineering in all of these projects – and our office in Istanbul always played an important role!
Werner Sobek Istanbul was founded in 2015 so that we are always available locally for our partners and clients in the region. The team on the Bosporus, which now has around 20 members, is led by our colleague Mustafa Alkan, who previously studied civil engineering in Karlsruhe and then worked in our Frankfurt office for many years.
What makes Istanbul such a Unique Location for Him?
For engineers, “the city with its seemingly indestructible ancient city walls, countless historical buildings, kilometre-long suspension bridges and tunnels as well as the numerous modern high-rise buildings is like a veritable open-air training centre,” explains Mustafa Alkan, who was born in Bruchsal in Baden and now feels very much at home in his new home – a true bridge builder between the continents.
