Natura mensura est – Thoughts on World Environment Day
Construction is responsible for a large part of the world’s raw material consumption and climate-damaging emissions. With the world’s population continuing to grow, our goal must therefore be to create an appropriate built environment for more people with less material and without emissions.
In the last of his “17 Statements on Sustainability,” Werner Sobek warns that our survival as humanity is only possible in an intact natural environment. If we continue to ignore this fact, it will mean the demise of humanity in the foreseeable future.
World Environment Day has been celebrated annually since 1973 under the auspices of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It has become the largest global platform for environmental advocacy and is celebrated by millions of people around the world.
