Prof. Jos Tomlow ILEK

Of Hanging Models and Brick Shells

In the ILEK series “Lecture Series Adaptivity as Utopia” initiated by our Executive Director Prof. Lucio Blandini, Prof. Jos Tomlow from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will speak on 21 September 2023. Under the title “Methodological Aspects of Historic Hanging Models in Comparison with the Work of Anton Gaudi and Eladio Dieste”, Jos Tomlow will talk about the method of hanging models for calculating load-bearing structures rediscovered by Antoni Gaudi. The second topic of the presentation is the technique developed by the Uruguayan engineer Eladio Dieste using steel-reinforced ceramic shells, which are similar to the principle of reinforced concrete beams.

After the event, there will be an opportunity to exchange ideas and make contacts over snacks and drinks.
