On International Recycling Day on 18 March 2023
The construction industry is at the top of the list of material-consuming industries worldwide. It is largely responsible for the overexploitation of nature and resources. We must finally rethink.
Recycling-friendly construction and the use of recycled building materials are an essential part of sustainable building. An example of how something like this can look is shown by our experimental unit UMAR in the Swiss NEST Campus. The experimental unit, planned by Werner Sobek together with Dirk Hebel and Felix Heisel, demonstrates that responsible use of our natural resources and appealing architecture are well compatible.
The design is based on the thesis that all resources needed to produce a building must be completely reusable, recyclable or at least compostable.
