Opening of “Staatsgalerie” Station
On Saturday, 11th September 2020, the new rail station “Staatsgalerie” was opened in a ceremonial act by Lord Mayor Fritz Kuhn and architect Christoph Ingenhoven. The railway project Stuttgart 21 requires diverse stations and routes belonging to the light rail public transport system (Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen (SSB)) to be rebuilt or refurnished make space for new railway tunnels. The tunnels leading to the planned through station cross the paths of SSB lines on both the north and south sides of the existing station.
To make it possible for an existing line to cross one of the new tunnels, construction work will involve raising the station „Staatsgalerie“ (State Gallery). Construction work is being carried out within the confined conditions of the inner-city road system that carries high volumes of traffic. We are very pleased about this milestone and the progress of the project “S21”.
