Promoting Diversity – an Interim Assessment
We take International Day of Women and Girls in Science on 11 February as an opportunity for self-reflection. How are we promoting equal opportunities and diversity as a company – and what can we do better?
At Werner Sobek, the proportion of women in the service departments as well as among engineers and architects is around 40 per cent on average – with small fluctuations depending on the location, of course. This is a high figure, but it can and must certainly be increased.
In particular, there is still a lot to be done in the area of management if we want to achieve a balanced gender ratio: in relation to the company as a whole, only a quarter of team leaders and the Managing Directors are female, but at our largest location (in Stuttgart), female team leaders already account for almost 40%.
So, all in all, we have already taken important steps towards greater equality and diversity – but we also know that there is still a long way to go. Let’s tackle it together, in the spirit of our board member Stefanie Weidner, who herself became the mother of a baby girl a year ago: “I can only recommend to young women in our industry to set personal goals and not to be dissuaded from them”.
