Recycling Centre – a Place of Peace and Quiet?

The aim of the new depot in Mannheim was to effectively protect the neighbouring residential areas from the noise of the recycling centre and at the same time create a quiet place for the employees. Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural and HVAC engineering for the design by the Hamburg-based architecture firm Schaltraum. The result is a complex consisting of two L-shaped structures made of reinforced concrete and wood, which enclose a green inner courtyard.
