Spiral Galaxy on Königstuhl
The curved ground plan of the House of Astronomy in Heidelberg is – appropriate to the theme examined here – modelled on a galaxy with two spiral arms. The architectural firm Bernhardt + Partner brought Werner Sobek on board for the facade engineering: the radiant white facade follows the geometry of the ground plan and is attractively structured by transparent window bands.
The House of Astronomy is a centre for research and communication of astronomical questions. It is located on the Königstuhl in Heidelberg, southeast of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy.
