The Mouse and the NEST
For more than 50 years, an orange mouse and a blue elephant have been entertaining young and old in front of the TV every Sunday on German TV. In an anniversary episode of the cult children’s show, host Armin Maiwald gets to the bottom of the question “How will we build in a way that is environmentally friendly in the future? He looks for answers in Dübendorf, Switzerland. In the experimental unit Urban Mining & Recycling (part of the research building NEST), designed and planned by Werner Sobek, people are intensively dealing with important questions such as how we can build in the future in a way that conserves resources as much as possible, how waste can be upgraded to new building materials, or how a recyclable building can look in practice. The entire episode is now available for viewing in the ARD Mediathek.
