Timber Structure with High Earthquake Resistance
A new fire station was built in Karlsdorf-Neuthard – the design came from the Munich-based architectural firm Deubzer König + Rimmel, and we were commissioned with the structural engineering of this beautiful project.
A special feature of the building is its elaborate timber structure, which ensures a high level of earthquake resistance: even in the case of extreme vibrations, the shear forces are transferred to the reinforced concrete cores through the cross laminated timber slab, which is only 6 cm thick. The ceiling loads are transferred to the wall-like beams made of cross-laminated timber.
