Structural Design Par Excellence

In their article “New territory in planning and realisation: The chalice-shaped supports of the new Stuttgart main station”, our colleagues Roland Bechmann, Angelika Schmid, Torsten Noack and Werner Sobek report on the central design element of Stuttgart’s main station. The chalice-shaped supports not only carry the shell roof, but also serve to provide natural lighting and ventilation for the interior. The article on the form-finding and calculation of these unique components was published in the journal Beton- und Stahlbetonbau. It is freely available for download here.
