World Expo Dubai

Next year, the first world exhibition in Middle East will open. With 192 national pavilions and a global audience, “Expo 2020” will be held under the motto “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. Due to Covid-19, the planned opening date has been postponed by one year, from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

We are delighted to be part of this unique event, which brings together important future topics with a focus on opportunities, mobility and sustainability.

For the world exhibition, Werner Sobek has developed a trio of innovative shading systems that link all of the national pavilions on the exhibition site. The structures cover a total area of approx. 96,000 m². All three systems use the same basic concept of a large-span steel frame construction as the foundation of their designs. The overall design is being submitted for CEEQUAL certification with the aim of achieving an ‘Excellent’ rating, the highest possible award. The shading systems were planned using the same comprehensive digital model that was employed for all of the World Expo’s other structures.
