CWE MetroLink Station
The Central West End CWE MetroLink Station is located in the middle of Washington University’s medical campus and is the busiest station on the local transit system. Since its completion in the 1990s, the station has struggled with high ridership.
Ready for the Future
The project is an expansion and refurbishment of the Central West End MetroLink Station in St. Louis. Werner Sobek New York was appointed as a facade and structural design consultant for this expansion and renovation, developing the structural design strategy for the platform canopy and the facade engineering of the Welcome Center, the glazed elevator and canopy.
A glass, light-filled lift takes visitors down to an expanded platform canopy that protects them from the elements. New lighting fills the space and contributes to a safe and comfortable environment.
The station is now positioned for the future, with improvements that will allow the university, its medical partners and the city to offer visitors and residents much improved access to some of the region’s most popular neighbourhoods.
