Desert X Sculpture Exhibition

For the international open-air exhibition Desert X 2022, Werner Sobek planned three sculptures together with the artists Zeinab AlHasehmi, Dana Awartani and Stephanie Deumer. The client was the manufacturer of the sculpture workshop, the company UAP, and the location of the exhibition is near the oasis and cultural site Al-‘Ula in Saudi Arabia.

Artistic Interpretations of Mirage & Oasis

Entitled “Sarab”, the 2022 exhibition explored the theme of mirage and oasis, both of which are inherent to the history and culture of the desert and have acquired complex global significance over time. The participating artists were asked to explore these ancient concepts, resulting in a total of 15 temporary works dealing with dreams, camouflage, fiction, disappearance/appearance, extraction, illusion and myth.
