DRV Office Building
The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Baden-Württemberg (DRV) has invested almost 72 million euros in the construction of a new headquarters in Stuttgart. A new 25,000 m² complex for around 1,000 employees was built in two construction phases next to the existing headquarters. The reason for the new building plans were the immense energy costs in the existing building, which amounted to 1.85 million euros annually. Werner Sobek was entrusted with the structural engineering and construction supervision for the project.
Construction Work During Ongoing Operations
The new DRV administration building in Stuttgart-Freiberg was constructed as a solid reinforced concrete structure. The main load-bearing elements are flat slabs (which were partly designed as hollow core slabs) as well as reinforced concrete columns and reinforced concrete cores (at the staircases and lifts), which also provide the stiffening of the building.
The construction work was carried out in two phases during ongoing operations. 8 storeys of the new building with a total of 10 storeys were founded in the 2nd construction phase on the 1st and 2nd basement of the existing building or erected on existing supports and foundations. For this purpose, extensive interventions in the existing basement floors and the existing supporting structure were necessary after dismantling about 50 % of the 1st-7th floors in the existing building. Finally, the lower floors of the existing building were renovated.
The new building was occupied by the staff in June 2019. The deconstruction measures in the existing building continued until the beginning of 2021.
