Increase for Federal Institute
A complete storey was added to each of the two existing buildings which are four storeys high and 50m long. To achieve this objective, Werner Sobek designed an extremely light, hinged steel structure braced with trapezoidal profiled sheet metal roofing.
Solution for stable foundations
It was possible to verify the stability of the existing construction by means of load comparisons; however, that was not the case as far as the foundations were concerned. Nevertheless, it was possible to avoid having to undertake costly measures to strengthen the foundations by employing even more complex methods of calculation than that used for the structural analysis of the existing building. Adding another storey to the building increased the surface area to provide sufficient space for another 80 offices.
