FIT – Academic Building

FIT is located in the heart of the fashion industry in New York and SHoP Architects was commissioned to design a new academic building.

In addition to creating a world-class learning environment, a key objective of the design is to make an iconic statement that will help create a new and lasting identity for the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan’s famous Garment District.

Layered Glass Facade Creates Identity

The ten-story, 100,000+ square foot building will redefine FIT’s presence in the neighbourhood. Its glass facade on West 28th Street opens the campus to the vibrant city of New York City and offers passers-by a glimpse into college life.

Werner Sobek is responsible for the facade engineering on this project. The new academic building, engineered as a new gateway to the existing campus, will have a multi-layered glass facade.
