Fraunhofer Würzburg

The Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC in Würzburg has been expanded to include a laboratory and technical centre building. The new building was planned by the internationally renowned architectural firm Zaha Hadid Architects. Werner Sobek was responsible for the facade planning of the project.

Curved Glass Facade for Flowing Dynamics

The new reinforced concrete skeleton building was connected to the existing buildings via a bridge walkway. Technikum III has 2,500 m² HNF, a façade and envelope area of approx. 4,500 m² and a roof area of approx. 950 m². The five-storey building follows the course of Luitpoldstraße and then swings in on the existing buildings. This created a triangular forecourt, car parking spaces and delivery areas.
