Guangzhou Science Museum
Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos and Werner Sobek won 1st place in the competition for the new Guangzhou Science Museum in China. The design is based on the combination of nine building volumes conceived as a flexible sequence of large “ceramic vases”. The functional programme includes exhibition rooms and spaces for temporary and permanent installations, theatres, lecture halls and a roof garden with a view of the city skyline and Lignan Park.
Milestone in the New Urban Axis
The architectural concept, born from a simple additive process, offers multiple variations of a limited number of elements. A complex space is thus created from a few different set pieces.
Together with the adjacent Guangzhou Museum and Art Gallery, the new Science Museum forms a milestone in the new urban axis.
