House W
The house planned by Kraus Schönberg for a young family in Hamburg is divided into two levels. The upper, closed-seeming part seems to virtually float above the transparent lower area. The upper floor houses the bedrooms and children’s rooms, with the living and dining rooms below.
Rooms of different Heights for a Young Family
The rooms on the upper floor project to different extents into the lower part of the house and have correspondingly different heights. Walls and ceilings on the upper floor consist of prefabricated solid wood panels that could be assembled within a few days.
Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural engineering of this project.
House W was awarded the German Timber Construction Prize in 2009.
