Junghof Plaza
The eight-storey Junghof ensemble is in a prime location in the middle of the banking district in Frankfurt am Main. In the revitalisation project, the office building from 2001 was almost completely deconstructed above ground and rebuilt on an existing three-storey basement with a modified floor plan geometry. In addition to the structural engineering and building physics, Werner Sobek was responsible for the DGNB certification of the revitalisation project.
Revitalisation Par Excellence
The new building houses a hotel, office space and commercial uses. Because the architect’s design called for building cut-outs and inner courtyards, new load-bearing components had to be added in the basement. For the additional loads, the foundation and other load-bearing components in the basement were statically strengthened and the load-bearing floor slab was reinforced by means of local injection piles. The approx. 500 m² above-ground inner courtyard is integrated into the new building and was covered with floor slabs. The new building above ground has the lightest possible ceiling constructions in order to minimise the loads on the existing building. Composite steel ceilings and reinforced concrete flat ceilings with Cobiax hollow bodies were used here.
