Kinder Kunst Labor (KKL)

The KinderKunstLabor (KKL) in the city of St. Pölten, Austria, is a new museum and centre dedicated to developing children’s understanding and appreciation of art. We were asked to carry out the structural engineering services that this innovative project required.

Innovative, Unconventional and of High Quality

The KinderKunstLabor is made up of five levels overall. Activities and exhibitions take place at the centre of each level in spaces that are reached via accessways located around the outer edges of the structure. A louvered timber facade creates a unique interplay of light and shade within the building and offers enticing views of both the interior and the world outside.

Local State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner praised the KinderKunstLabor, extolling its “innovative, high-quality architecture that is tailored to the needs of children and clearly stands worlds apart from conventional museum design”.

2024 KinderKunstLabor won the Award “Bauherr:innen Preis“.
