Main Yard Frankfurt
Werner Sobek is responsible for structural engineering on the “Main Yard” project — a new city quarter that is currently being developed in the Allerheiligenviertel district of Frankfurt. Measuring up to seven storeys in height and built using a conventional loadbearing design, the project comprises six new buildings that are all being constructed on top of a shared twin-level basement. Partially prestressed flat slabs within each of the buildings serve to transfer their loads to the foundations below.
Room for a New City Quarter to Grow
Featuring around 300 rental apartments, a hotel and a variety of spaces for food outlets and commercial use, the design for the Main Yard quarter is the result of a collaboration between Munich-based architects a+p Architekten and the TEK TO NIK architectural firm from Frankfurt. Following its completion, the development is set to breathe new life into the district at the edge of the city centre in which it sits.
