Oeconomicum II

The Institute of Economics building at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, completed in 2010, was extended in 2019 with an annex. Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural and facade engineering for the project. Because the new building is primarily for office use, ventilation flaps were added to the facade structure of the existing building. In combination with the inner walls of the new building, this results in a double-skin facade.

The arch-shaped building was extended by about a third to the site boundary for the extension on the western side. In the transition area between the existing building and the new building, a staircase was added on the south side, which is fitted with an under-span sunshade. On the roof surface and on the north side of the building, the cladding is visually continued with galvanised expanded metal.
