Replacement Construction of Schönfließ Bridge
Werner Sobek was commissioned with the object and structural planning of the new Schönfließ Bridge in Berlin-Pankow. The existing pedestrian and cycle bridge is located in a densely built-up residential area and was built in 1964 to replace the original road bridge, which was badly damaged during the war. Now the cycle network is being further expanded and Schönfließ bridge is being redesigned on the site of the original road bridge to create a new, convenient crossing in the centre of Prenzlauer Berg.
Steel Bridge Over the Track Bed
On both sides of the 4 m wide cycle path, 3.20 m wide footpaths help to accommodate the heavy use by pedestrians and cyclists. Various measures to increase road safety and the quality of life in the transition areas will be implemented at the same time as the bridge construction. The new tied-arch superstructure spans an impressive 47 metres without supports over the tracks below. Extensive cable and pipework systems will also be integrated into the steel superstructure.
