The Macherei (M60)

M60 is a new office building designed by architectural firm Sauerbruch Hutton for construction in “Die Macherei” – an urban quarter located in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. Werner Sobek has been tasked with providing structural engineering and BIM services for the project.

The ground floor of the seven-storey building is home to a reception area, a cafeteria and a canteen. All the other storeys above are exclusively dedicated to office space.

8,200 Square Metres of Climate-Neutral Workspace

One special feature of the project is its use of Cobiax technology, which places lightweight plastic void formers at specific points within reinforced concrete slabs to remove the need for heavy concrete where it is not a structural necessity.

Cutting-edge photovoltaic technology is also being implemented in the development to help make “Die Macherei” a CO₂-neutral quarter that ushers in the future of rigorously sustainable urban architecture.
