The Q

The Q project in Nuremberg has won the polis AWARD 2022 for urban and project development. The award recognises projects that contribute to the public good of a city beyond their own scope. One of the main reasons for this award is the large saving in climate-damaging emissions that was achieved by not building a new building. Our calculations showed: By revitalising the former Quelle site (and not building a comparable new building elsewhere), more than 33,000 t of CO₂  equivalents were saved!

Ecologically Sustainable Stock Revitalization

A distribution centre formerly occupied by the Quelle company in Nuremberg is being built into a mixed-use quarter for offices, businesses, residences and social organizations. Nuremberg’s municipal authority is one of the development’s primary tenants. Large sections of the existing buildings are being cut out and remodelled in a way that is sympathetic to their historically listed status in order to accommodate the new functions intended for the site.

The project’s overall goal is to enhance one of the largest building complexes in Nuremberg and transform it into a new city district. Werner Sobek is responsible for the structural engineering and the facade engineering.
