Timmerhuis Rotterdam

The new Stadskantoor Timmerhuis Rotterdam was designed to create the most sustainable building in the Netherlands. OMA’s design, developed in collaboration with Werner Sobek, won first prize in the architectural competition held for this purpose. The sustainability concept received a special award. Through a holistic assessment, starting with a microclimatic analysis, the building was optimised in terms of daylight use, thermal comfort, energy consumption and water conservation.

Goal: Most Sustainable Building in the Netherlands

The building is designed to save 1.8 million litres of drinking water per year. Compared to standard uses, this means a 51% reduction in water consumption! Semi-transparent insulating panels in the building’s cladding guarantee high thermal comfort while providing enough daylight for the office spaces.
