Uzbekistan Pavilion Expo 2025 in Osaka

Uzbekistan Pavilion Expo 2025

The central theme of Expo 2025 in Osaka – Japan is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” with the subtheme “Connecting Live Zones”. In this project, Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural design of the special roof structure of the Uzbekistan pavilion. The design of the pavilion is to include a combination of progressive architecture and centuries-old heritage and culture, connecting the past and the future in one space.

Wooden roof structure with triangular shape

The Uzbek pavilion is characterized by a wooden roof structure in a triangular shape. This look is created by several levels of beams in the form of triangular modules. The levels create an incidence of light and shadow reminiscent of a birch forest. Very slender and approximately 5 to 8 meters high wooden columns with an extremely dense arrangement reinforce the feeling of the forest even further. The roof is mounted on a regular structure and spans around 38 to 47 meters on each side of the triangle.
