Dortmund Airport

Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural engineering of the new airport in Dortmund-Wickede according to plans by the architectural firm LTK.

The terminal building is around 430 m long and 22 m high. It offers passengers and visitors spacious, light-flooded lounge areas on several levels. Through the use of large glass surfaces, the events on the airfield can already be experienced in the check-in area and thus convey the anticipation of the “flying” experience.

Wing-Shaped Roof Structure

The height of the airport building had to be minimised due to the building site and the given freedom from obstacles. This was achieved by a roof structure consisting of a filigree steel and glass construction whose shape is reminiscent of an aircraft wing.
