Mobile Life Campus
The master plan for the Volkswagen AutoUni’s Mobile Life Campus envisaged five main buildings for the 15-hectare site, as well as a boarding house and a communication forum. The basic structure of the resulting buildings resembles a folded band. The horizontal storey levels are integrated into the folded structure.
Folded Ribbon as Basic Structure
This building structure is also reflected in the facade. It is designed as a solid band in an interplay of closed and open surfaces. The interior is characterised by a glass-covered atrium, which serves as a main meeting place and space for informal communication.
In addition to the facade planning, Werner Sobek was responsible for the structural engineering of the project.
The Volkswagen AutoUni has brought together the School of Economics and Business Administration, the School of Science and Technology and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences to create a new kind of research campus.
